He was also a part of The Killing, a drama series that aired worldwide. Then, he appeared in Borgen III and Those Who Kill, two internationally highly acclaimed Danish dramas. He also played a major role in the BBC drama Sherlock, playing blackmailer Charles Augustus Magnussen. He was the president of Russia in House of Cards, an American television show. He was awarded an International Emmy Award in 2018 for his performance in Danish television drama Herrens Veje. This series was telecast in the UK as Ride Upon the Storm in 2019. He claims that his brother and he first began learning English through listening to Monty Python records and learning the sketches from the comedy show.
